St Vincent
17th March 2014: St Vincent. After 7 days at sea we arrived at the Cape Verde islands and in particular St Vincent. This small group of Islands, are 400 miles off the westernmost promontory of Africa and in fact in the middle of nowhere, and with not even major shipping routes passing by. Life has passed these islands by and even the multitude of dogs know that it is safe, just to lie down and sleep anywhere they can get out of the incessant wind as no-one will disturb them.
Even the dogs asleep on the beaches didn’t wake when the Aurora passengers got off the boat walked into town and mostly returned back within one and half hours.
Even the local market, seemed to be slow today, so as not to disturb the dogs….
You see life in the Windward Islands is slow, it’s also very windy with fine dust blowing around constantly, fifteen years ago half the population could not read and there were no water pipes to the houses…today things have changed…slowly.
